Race Day Info

Parking will be behind the high school. Please ENTER and EXIT on West 60th Street (north entrance to the high school).  For the safety of our participants, access via 61st street will be limited.

We will gather at the south end of the football stadium with our start and finish line on the east track straightaway again this year.  Dogs are not allowed inside the stadium, so please leave your furry friends at home.

Also, for safety reasons, participants who will be pushing a stroller will need to remain near the back of the pack allowing for the more serious runners to have their safe space.
Please wear your race bib on the front of your shirt.
Packet pick-up and race day registration will open at 7:15 AM (no checks).

We are excited to have drink options available for purchase this year!  We welcome Traveling Tom's Coffee Truck and will have Smoothie King smoothies available at the merchandise tent.

Be sure to grab a “I’m Fighting For” bib and let everyone know who you are trying to protect or honor by participating in the 5K.  If you are a family member who has lost a loved one to illicit fentanyl, please let the bib table attendant know so that we can have you participate in our tribute.

June 2025

We are two weeks out from the 4th annual Fighting Fentanyl 5K race day on June 14th at Mill Valley High School. We are busy getting ready for a fun and memorable day.

The number one mission of this event is to spread awareness and provide education, because if there is just one thing we have learned since we lost Cooper, it is…

Knowing about fentanyl and fake pills could be the difference between life and death.

That being said...

Registration is still open, so tell your friends and family so they don’t miss out.

No worries for those who are still getting registered...we ordered 150 extra shirts!

Ever wonder what we do with the money we raise at our event?  All of it goes to support our "You Never Know" paid social media campaign.  We have proudly partnered with the Johnson County Prevention and Recovery Coalition (Johnson County Mental Health Center) to launch this campaign in 2024 getting ads on screens over 9 million times across 4 platforms.  We are gearing up to launch round two with updated content for Gen Z AND new content for parents/caregivers!

For an easier race day experience, please pick up your packet prior to race day

April 2025

Calling all previous Fighting Fentanyl 5K runners, walkers, and supporters!  Can you believe it’s that time again?

Registration is open and we would love to have you join us again this year!

(May 21st is the deadline to make sure you get a race shirt in the size you need)

This year we have a TEAM option! This is a great way to get your friends and family involved. Team Captains can "create a team" during the registration process and then team members have the option to "join a team" using selections offered in a drop-down box. It's that easy!

As we prepare for our 4th annual Fighting Fentanyl 5K, we always want to reflect on the reasons we do this.  First and foremost, we want Cooper’s legacy to be one that continues to save lives through raising awareness and providing education around the dangers of illegally made fentanyl and fake pills.

Secondly, our event continues to raise funds that are used to finance a county (and state) wide paid social media campaign in partnership with the Johnson County Prevention and Recovery Coalition.  We are thrilled to report that from March – December 2024, our ads were on screens over 9 million times!  Your support is what makes this possible and together we are saving lives and keeping families intact.  As we speak, new content is being created so that we can continue the campaign through 2025.

Race Day

We are excited to welcome JuYeon Kim from KSHB as our new emcee!

We are thrilled to have both returning and new partners joining us to provide amazing community support and resources…

  • KBI

  • DCCCA (providing life-saving naloxone)

  • Johnson County Mental Health Center

  • Shawnee Police Department

  • Shawnee Fire Department

Be sure to take advantage of yummy drinks available for purchase from Smoothie King and Travelin’  Tom’s coffee truck!

Last, and certainly not least, you can expect updated information and education on the current trends around illegally manufactured fentanyl.  This event is more important now than ever before. For the second year in a row, CDC shows that Kansas leads the nation in fentanyl related deaths per capita for ages 15-19.  Our teenagers and young adults have become collateral damage to this epidemic and awareness is the number one defense.

This is information every family needs to stay safe, so please invite other families you know and love to join you for this fun and important event!

Be sure to grab a special complimentary bib to let everyone know who YOU are fighting for!  And, of course, we will have a special tribute for our loved ones who have been lost to fentanyl poisoning prior to the start of the race.

We look forward to a powerful day of exercise and education,

The Fighting Fentanyl 5K Race Committee
